WEEK 46 - Ainhoa Merino

INTERNATIONAL WEEK This week has been the international week in our course. By groups, we have been assigned to do a workshop in order to exchange ideas and opinions with other students from different countries, in our case, Belgium.  Our group, taking into account the importance of the storyteller, decided to focus on body language, since, in our background, it has also been of great importance. Personally, I was very interested in the subject and that's why it was very easy for us to work on this topic, because it was a subject that interested us all a lot. As future teachers, body language is of vital importance to us and I think we were able to represent it in the workshop. Also, I think our ideas were heard and the activities worked well. In short, we were able to get our ideas across even though we had a few technical problems. Here is the presentation we created for our workshop: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/17QZ7UnMMofa9PAFIjYpaE6FVzpp3RkAzL4WryRLFNck/edit?u...

Hello! This is my presentation for the International week. As it could not be presented live, my group and I decided to create a video for anyone who was interested to have a look at it.  The main theme is the importance of voice in storytelling.  We hope you like it.  Greetings to all of you.

Week 44: Kindergartens and Mythology

Askeladden Kindergarten I was really captured by the amount of time the children spent on listening and playing fairy tales. For over an hour the teacher and children told various tales while some children were playing the different characters. All children got to play in multiple tales. All the children were so focused on what was happening.  Afterwards one of the teachers sat down with us some explanation about the kindergarten. They use the same fairy tales for a longer period. All children will play all the rolls. This way they interact with the same story from different rolls.  What for me stuck the most was the story about a 5 year old girl who came to the kindergarten. The girl had just moved to Norway and didn't speak the language. When playing outside she played a part of one of the fairy tales she had seen earlier that they. Other children recognized this and started playing along with her. This is something I hope I can take with me to the Netherlands since I ...

Storyline approach   In the Netherlands at the university we get some classes about the storyline approach. I’ve spent time at two different universities and both also have assignments for which you have to work with the storyline approach. I’ve used the approach a total of 3 times for assignments. Some of my mentors were familiar with it. One was not. When talking about it with my mentors and classmates who were also working on the assignment one big issue always came up: it costs a lot of time to prepare. This has stopped most teachers from using this in the classroom. They can’t find the time to prepare the storyline approach. So what is it and why is it that it costs a lot of time? The basis of the storyline approach is a theme around which activities are made. Within this theme the teacher provides the start of a story. The important element for the theme and story is that it is relatable for the children. As teacher you take the children along the story with act...

WEEK 45 - Ainhoa Merino

THE ORAL TRADITIONS OF AFRICA Actually, at the time the talks started I didn’t know what or where today’s session was going. But, after hearing several testimonials, I found them very interesting.      I have noticed that the culture of different regions of Africa is somehow related to Basque culture. As a child, I was told that stories have always been transmitted orally, and now I have just learned that they are also repeated in many African countries.      I have also noticed that we share many proverbs, as in many other languages; although, of course, we say it in other words. Like, for example: It is best to bind up the nger before it is cut. Do not say the rst thing that comes to your mind Not to know is bad; not to wish to know is worse. ... I find it very interesting that we think we have nothing to do with other cultures, but, when we can listen to other people about how they live it and so on, we realize that we have more than one thing in c...

THE IMPORTANCE OF STORYTELLING IN NOWADAYS EDUCATION I decided to make a theoretical presentation on the importance of storytelling today in education, because honestly, I think that today storytelling is not given the importance or prominence that it should be given. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1WtO3pL_EjivWhXfQjREvuDgsyh8FhkaB90vic56_Q8Y/edit?usp=sharing
