Week 37 - Arts & Crafts by Eva Pérez

Eva Pérez Abril ARTS & CRAFTS It is often said that the dirtier you end up doing an activity, the more fun you have had. This week I had a great time in Arts & Crafts classes.  I think that is very important and interesting to experience ourselves the activities that we can do with our students later.  Stop-motion animation I had never done a stop-motion activity before and it is a very easy resource to create and use, as well as being very attractive.  Our story is about 2 jellyfish that with their eyes dazzle other characters passing by until they finally finish them off.  Clay puppets We also learned how to make puppets out of clay. When I was at school the use of clay was very common but I never thought I could use it to create puppets. Also this puppets could be used in a future to tell stories to my pupils.  Potato puppet Troll made of clay We made a sculpture of a troll inspired by some images we found on the web while we were...

Week 1

Music During music we did a couple of different things. We talked and sang a couple of Norwegian songs, combined with exercises that we can use in the classroom. Personally I'm not a big fan of those types of exercises do to a fear of singing (which can result in me just shutting down and sitting in my chair because for some reason my body will refuse anything else). Luckily I didn't have this fear of singing that badly this day.  In between the exercises we had a couple of conversations about what music is, what it means to people, if every song has a story etc. With our group we had an assignment to take a fairytale, create music and/or sounds for it and tell the story with these sounds. We went for the 3 little pigs story. We used a couple of different instruments for different events within the story. The pigs had a sound when they finished building there houses and when they were running to the next house. The wolf had a sound for running as well and for falling down the...

WEEK 37 - Ainhoa Merino

ARTS AND CRAFTS This week has been about immersing ourselves in the world of crafts. It has been about immersing ourselves. It has been to immerse ourselves in our little selves. It has been to immerse ourselves in our past and put ourselves in the shoes of our students. Honestly, I found it very interesting to be able to touch different materials and to be able to express with them different things that came directly from within us. At the end of the day that is the power that gives us the ability to transform different materials into other things that we can talk to without saying a word. At first I felt a bit lost, because I didn't know where to start, I didn't know the material, and I didn't know what I had or what I could create from the material I had in my hands. That's why I decided to roll the dice and create what destiny had for me. First, as you can see in the image, I created a jellyfish. As you can see in the stop motion, it and its twin sister have the pow...

WEEK 37 - Art project as team building?

Imagen
PETRA This week we spent making different kinds of puppets. It was interesting and also fun to try all those tasks and create something real. But I think the most important thing I have learnt is that you can use an art project as a task for a whole group of students, not only as an individual work.

WEEK 36 - How does live storytelling win over Wikipedia?

PETRA It is the title of an interesting article about storytelling I found this week on one of Czech educational websites. It is basically about teachers who are not freightent to stand against the streaming culture nowadays and focus on telling stories during their classes to make them more effective and more human. Some of them met at a storytelling workshop in Olomouc, Czechia a few days ago. Here are some of their thoughts on storytelling.

Week 36 - Myths & Grønland by Eva Pérez

Eva Pérez Abril MYTHS AND GRØNLAND   First, a myth is a marvellous narrative starring gods, heroes, or fantastic characters, set outside historical time, which explains or gives meaning to certain events or phenomena. Myths are also part of the belief system of a people or culture. Myths answer questions such as who we are, where do we come from, where are we going, why are we here, and offer explanations traditionally accepted by the people.   A myth is a story its meaning is not contingent of being true or false. Myths appear to provide answers to what things and man are. We need myths because they are a way of explaining what surround us. The aim of myths is to provide an explanation of the meaning of life. Finally, myths are important because These myths show modern people a glimpse of how people thought in the past, what they considered important, how their morals worked, etc. THE NARCISSUS MYTH   Narcissus, son of the god Cepheus and Liriope, was a very beautiful an...
