Week 35 - Importance of Fairy Tales, Music, Jokes and Folk Tales by Eva Pérez
Importance of Fairy Tales, Music, Jokes and Folk Tales
On the first day of class, during the introductory lecture, I realised how important is taking this course as part of my degree as a teacher.
Storytelling is attractive for children and an essential tool in education. Stories also can help to transmit a wide range of values. Moreover, stories help children to experience emotions. Finally, fairy tales are part of the culture which is very important for the knowledge of people.
Next day, we had a fun music class in which we learned lots of things. I realised that music makes us feel many emotions and it can warn us about situations that are happening inside a story. I also learned lots of song that I had never listened to. On the other hand, we learned how to play a typical African instrument which is very interesting to use in storytelling.
In class with Eivind we reflected about jokes and the main question was if jokes can tell us a story too. I had never thought about this idea, and it is true that a joke is also telling us something and has a story behind it.
Finally, we found out a bit more about Folk Tales, especially Norwegian Folk Tales. We read in class “The Ask Lad and The Good Helpers” which is about three brothers that want to get hold of the king’s daughter and halve the kingdom. We can also read many other Folk Tales like “The Man Who Was Going To Mind The House”, “Tatterhood” and “The Lads Who Met The Trolls In The Hedale Woods”.
