TRIP TO GRØNLAND

On the 8th of September we started our adventure around 12 noon. On the way to the cabin, we were observing nature and learning new vocabulary of the trees we were finding.

Before reaching the cabin, we stopped in an area where we could have a barbecue to eat and regain strength to continue our way. We learned how to make sticks to put the sausages on and cook them on the fire. We also learnt how to make a fire, which was the most important thing.

The names of the trees I remember most were: maple, birch, and ash. I didn't know that the birch tree was used to make furniture among other things. I remember these names because when I arrived at the cabin, together with my group I had to invent a story in which these trees were quick to learn.

Once upon a time, there was a carpenter but something bad happened to her and she became to be very upset that she began to play the flute. She used to play very sad melodies every day from the morning to the night. She played her flute she made of a maple tree sitting on a chair that she made of a birch tree next to a window where everybody can hear her.

One day, all the neighbours decided to that horrible noise. They came to her house with the intention of destroying the flute. They took the axe and threatened her. She said: “You can’t hurt me with that axe I made of ash tree”. But the neighbours answered: “We can’t stand your music anymore. We will destroy your flute”. She said: “Nooo! You can’t destroy the flute I made of maple tree.” But the neighbours answered: “So, we will destroy your chair”. She answered: “Nooo! You can’t destroy the chair I made of birch tree”.

Finally, they asked: “Why are you playing these bad melodies all day?”. She answered: “Something really bad happened to me and I am full of sadness”. One of the neighbours said: “My mum always told me that people understand each other by talking. How about hanging out together and mingle with us instead of being alone with your birch chair and your maple flute?”

In the end, they live happily ever after leaving the ash axe aside.

I liked this activity as all the groups shared our stories, which were very entertaining. At the same time, all the students were able to give their opinions on the stories and comment positive and negative aspects of each of them. This is fundamental to be a good storyteller.

In the evening, we did some short theatrical performances about Greek myths, astrology... It was a fun time we shared before going to sleep.

Before going to the rooms, we all shared a very nice time together around the fire. Many classmates shared very interesting stories. It is curious to see how each person has a different way of telling a story and very different resources.

I really enjoyed this trip because I realised that you can also learn outside the classroom.
